Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Paul Perry arrived in Argentina in the early 1990s, at the beginning of a period of profound change for the country. “When I got here, I felt like I was from the future”, he often states, and Paul rode that early sensation, stretching it into a life in Buenos Aires, which has been defined by creativity, endurance, and hustle. What began with him rapping in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, soon led him to La Calle Florida, where he worked as a salesman at popular clothing shop called Mango.
Life in Buenos Aires opened new doors as a writer and an English teacher, earning 20 pesos an hour at a time when the dollar was at 1. In other words, twenty pesos was twenty dollars. His path as an English led him into dozens of office buildings and homes, the most relevant, that of legendary rock icon Luis Alberto Spinetta. Paul’s book, ‘Mi Vecino, el Flaco‘ narrates his experiences as neighbor and friend of the late Argentine singer, composer, and poet.
From there, he expanded into a wide range of artistic pursuits: publishing several books, acting in various international projects, and even founding the first ever all expat baseball team in Argentine history, the Buenos Aires Shankees (2008–2018).
Today, Paul is recognized across the expat community as a visionary, an artist, and a cultural icon as an expat, often referring to himself as the ultimate Expat. His endeavors continue to inspire and change people’s lives, helping to empower the English-speaking community in not only Buenos Aires, but all of Argentina.
Through The Gringos in Buenos Aires Podcast, his latest project s in fact an idea that originated in 90’s when he and his friend, Chris, came up with the idea for an all-English speaking radio show, “Rock-N-News Radio”.
In a very short time, The Gringos in Buenos Aires Podcast has carved out a vibrant space within the expat scene by featuring English-speaking guests from all walks of life. Once a week, guests come on the show to share their experiences, showcase their talents, share laughter, and even shed a tear or two.
The Gringos in Buenos Aires Podcast merges cultures, celebrates art and serves all as a guiding light to those sometimes feeling lost in this vibrant South American country.
With multiple episodes already on air, The Gringos in Buenos Aires Podcast is available on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, connecting audiences both locally and worldwide.
